Flap your wings butterfly; keep flapping ‘em wings

The butterfly effect of the Wikileaks saga has worked its first miracle. An Australian geek, supported by nameless, faceless, brave soldiers of the information age, started the reaction that has resulted in the removal of a despicable dictator from power in Tunisia.

There are many heroes in this story. Mohammed Bouazizi, Julian Assange, the leakers who enabled the Wikileaks saga, the teenagers and sundry protestors who lost their lives protesting Ben Ali’s rule the last couple of weeks (60? 100? How many were killed by the police firings?). There is one clear victor, Tunisia. However, what makes me quite breathless with anticipation is what the future holds for us. Will the Arab world finally get the democratic, popular governance we take for granted in the West? Where will the next revolution take place? Morocco? Egypt? Syria?

A breath of fresh air, after a long and chillingly rude American political season last year.
